Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 28, 2026
PetScope helps you understand what's in your pet's food. We try to keep this policy short and plain.
1. What we collect
Information you give us
- Email address — used to sign you in via a magic link. We don't store passwords.
- Pet profiles — name, species, breed, any allergens or sensitivities you add, and an optional pet profile photo.
- Ingredient text and label photos — what you type, paste, or photograph so we can analyze it. Label photos are processed in memory and not retained after analysis.
- Barcodes you scan, so we can look up the corresponding product.
- Favorites and analysis history — saved so you can see past results in the app.
Information collected automatically
- Authentication tokens — kept securely on your device's keychain so you stay signed in.
- Subscription status — whether you have an active Premium subscription. Payment itself is handled by Apple; we never see your card details.
- Operational logs — server logs (timestamps, request IDs, error traces) used to keep the service running and debug problems.
We do not collect contacts, location, advertising identifiers, or browsing activity outside the app.
2. How we use it
- To run the analysis you asked for (text, image, or barcode).
- To save your pets, history, and favorites so the app is useful next time.
- To send the magic-link emails you request to sign in.
- To enforce free-tier limits and unlock Premium features for active subscribers.
- To diagnose bugs, prevent abuse, and improve quality.
3. Who we share it with
We share the minimum necessary information with service providers that help us run PetScope. They are bound by contract and may only use the data on our behalf.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users, or in connection with a business transfer.
4. How long we keep it
We keep your account data, pet profiles (including any pet profile photos you add), analysis history, and favorites for as long as your account is active, or until you delete them from inside the app. Operational logs are rotated regularly and retained only as long as needed to diagnose problems.
We do not save the photos you upload for ingredient analysis. Label and barcode photos are processed in memory to extract text and are then discarded. The only images we store on our servers are the optional pet profile photos you choose to add to a pet.
5. Your choices and rights
You can, at any time:
- Edit or delete any pet, history entry, or favorite from inside the app.
- Delete your account — there's a "delete account" option inside the app.
- Cancel Premium at any time through your Apple ID subscription settings.
6. Security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Data at rest is stored on databases and storage within private, authenticated networks. Authentication tokens on your device are stored in the iOS Keychain. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to limit what we collect so that there's a smaller blast radius.
7. Children
PetScope is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it (or you can delete it within the app).
8. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we'll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of PetScope after a change means you accept the updated policy.
9. Contact
Questions, deletion requests, or concerns? Email [email protected] and we'll get back to you.
- We collect only what we need to run the app: your email, pet profiles, ingredient text, and label photos you submit.
- We don't sell your data.
- You can delete your account at any time.
Email [email protected] any time, and we'd be happy to answer any questions/concerns.
